화이트스톤 갤러리 서울의 개관 그룹전 <We Love Korea>가 9월 3일부터 10월 15일까지 저명한 일본 건축가 쿠마 켄고의 디자인 감각이 돋보이는 갤러리의 서울 지점에서 개최된다.  세 개의 주요 전시실과 옥상 등 갤러리 전체를 활용한 이 전시는 한국 지점 개관을 기념하는 첫번째 전시로써 동아시아 전후 아방가르드 예술가들과 세계적으로 주목을 받고 있는 차세대 예술가들을 포함한 다양한 작가들이 참여한다.

지하 1층에 위치한 메인 전시홀은 일본에서 일본에서 높은 평가와 찬사를 받는 화가 코마츠 미와의 작품을 소개한다. 코마츠 미와는 동양 전통의 동물들과 신화의 이미지를 강렬하고 율동적인 질감으로 표현하는 것으로 잘 알려져 있다. 화이트스톤 서울 개관전 스페셜 이벤트 중 하나로 작가의 한국 데뷔를 기념하는 라이브 페인팅을 선보일 예정이다. 현장에서 라이브 페인팅으로 완성된 작품은 봉은사에 기부, 전시할 예정이다.

2층의 제2전시실에서는 화이트스톤 갤러리가 선별한 일본 전후 포스트모던과 아방가르드 예술을 중심으로 폭넓은 작가들을 전시한다. 화이트스톤은 일본 전후시대의 작가들을 활발하게 소개해 왔으며 그 중 구타이 미술협회 를 주로 소개해 왔다. 1960년대 초반에 절정에 달했던 구타이 미술협회는 "남을 모방하지 말고 지금까지 한 번도 존재한 적 없는 것을 창조하라”는 리더 요시하라의 말을 모토로 삼아 전통적인 예술의 관념을 깨는 작품의 제작, 행위, 그리고 환경을 이용한 미술 등을 실행한 전위적인 예술가들의 모임이었다. We Love Korea”는 구타이의 리더 요시하라 지로의 작품부터 다나카 아츠코와 시라가 카즈오의 표현적이며 다채로운 작품을 포함하여 다양한 구타이 작가들의 작품을 선보일 것이다.

구타이 작가들의 작품 외에도 1960년대 일본에서 활동했던 모노하(Mono-ha)와 같은 혁신적인 방법 및 재료를 실험한 일본 전후 시대 작가들의 중요한 작품 또한 선보일 예정이다. 방문객들은 이우환을 비롯한 모노하의 영향력 있는 작가들의 그림을 감상할 수 있다. 또한 1960년대 일본에서 활동하며 백남준과 같은 예술가들과 함께 실험적인 해프닝과 전위 예술 활동을 벌인 예술 집단인 하이 레드 센터 (Hi-Red Center)의 타카마츠 지로, 아카세가와 겐페이, 나카니시 나츠유키의 작품이 전시된다. 더불어 본 섹션에서는 쿠사마 야요이, 나라 요시토모와 같은 중요한 동시대 일본 작가들의 작품도 볼 수 있다.
옥상 정원으로 향하는 계단과 서울 시내를 조망하는 야외 공간에는 한국 도예작가 무진 신원동의 달항아리 작품을 볼 수 있다. 신작가는 한국의 전통적인 도자기 기법과 현대적인 미적 감각을 결합하여 정원 배경과 매끄럽게 조화를 이룰 유기적인 실루엣과 차분한 색상의 달항아리 작품을 설치한다.

Whitestone Gallery Seoul's inaugural group exhibition, <We Love Korea>, will be on view from September 3 through October 15 at the gallery's Seoul location, which features the design sensibility of renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. Utilizing the entire gallery, including three main exhibition halls and the rooftop, the exhibition marks the inaugural opening of the Korean branch and features a wide range of artists, including East Asian post-war avant-garde artists and a new generation of internationally recognized artists.

The main exhibition hall, located on the first basement floor, introduces the work of Miwa Komatsu, a highly regarded and acclaimed painter from Japan. Miwa Komatsu is known for her intense, rhythmic textural renderings of traditional Eastern animal and mythological imagery. As one of the special events at Whitestone Seoul's opening, a live painting will mark the artist's Korean debut. The artwork completed during the live painting will be donated to Bong Eunsa Temple for display.

The second exhibition room on the second floor will showcase a wide range of artists, focusing on Japanese postwar postmodern and avant-garde art curated by Whitestone Gallery. Whitestone has been an active presenter of Japanese postwar artists, most notably the Kutai Art Association. At its peak in the early 1960s, the Gutai Art Association was a group of avant-garde artists whose motto was "Don't imitate others, create something that has never existed before," and whose practices included making, performing, and using the environment to create works that defied traditional notions of art. "We Love Korea" will feature works by a variety of Gutai artists, from the work of Gutai leader Jiro Yoshihara to the expressive and colorful works of Atsuko Tanaka and Kazuo Shiraga.

In addition to works by Kutai artists, the exhibition will also feature important works by Japanese postwar artists who experimented with innovative methods and materials, such as Mono-ha, who were active in Japan in the 1960s. Visitors will be able to see paintings by influential members of Mono-ha, including Lee Woo-hwan. There will also be works by Jiro Takamatsu, Genpei Akasegawa, and Natsuyuki Nakanishi of the Hi-Red Center, an art collective active in Japan in the 1960s that engaged in experimental happening and avant-garde art alongside artists such as Nam June Paik. This section also features works by important contemporary Japanese artists such as Yayoi Kusama and Yoshitomo Nara.

The staircase to the rooftop garden and the outdoor space overlooking downtown Seoul will feature moon jars by Korean ceramic artist Moojin Shin Won-dong. The new artist combines traditional Korean ceramic techniques with a contemporary aesthetic to install moon jars with organic silhouettes and muted colors that will blend seamlessly into the garden setting.
